Being a bit of a Luddite I often steer well clear of computer hardware and software.
Not for me the GOTO telescope alignment, for me it's planispheres and setting circles.
Though I sometimes peek at what's available, for example the Seestar S30 & 50 have both caught my attention..one day maybe.
The latest intrigue for me is to possibly clean up some of my astronomy pictures via Gemini AI.
First of all Venus.
Here's an image a took via the projection method of the Venus Transit from June 4th 2004:
After letting Gemini AI clean it up and tidy, here was the finished result:
The image returned by AI processing could not be improved on by me if I had a week of Sundays to do it.. and Gemini AI took maybe 10 seconds to produce this image you see above.
Is it cheating to use AI in this manner? I don't think so, for if that was true I would have been cheating using the 35mm SLR camera that took the initial photo back in 2004!
With that in my, here are a couple more of my astro images cleaned and tidied by AI :
All this processed and delivered in under ten seconds!
Another one of my sunspot images.
With AI att the helm this image below was produced, again in about five to ten seconds.
I tried a few more solar photos, but AI was keen to add a bit more penumbra tha I thought was necessary, the AI was apt to make the final sunspot groupings look a bit like Van Gogh's sunflowers!
